Drugs and alcohol are not the problem. It is the addiction to them that we must face.

The War On Addiction is an all-out attack against the real reason behind the drug problem facing the nation today.

Addiction is a developmentally acquired brain disease—a complex system of behaviors formed in the earliest stages of human development. It is irreversible, but treatable. There is a solution and recovery is possible, though there is no cure.

Treatment and enforcement both matter. We must help those already struggling and stop the flood of illegal drugs—especially fentanyl—into our communities. But prevention  is the real priority.

I spent decades speaking directly to millions of young people in America’s public schools and through the television shows they watched. Today I keep that work going by working with government agencies, schools, recovery centers, churches, and families to make treatment and prevention a reality now.

That means a singular solid definition of what the disease and evidence-based treatment is. It’s about the true nature of addiction and how to defeat it. It means building systems that protect the next generation before the disease takes hold.

Today I serve as a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the Dream Believe Institute, and through Rick Amato Ministries I keep sounding the alarm on addiction, because lasting freedom takes both a clear mind and a renewed spirit.

The War On Addiction® is living up to its name every moment of every day. Together, we can break the cycle. The most important word to be understood in this ages-long battle is the word “WE”.
